Billie Rose Releases ‘Black Dress’
You know that feeling when you wake up and it’s like a herd of rhinos were headbutting you for eight hours straight and you think to yourself, “why did last night happen, why do I do this to myself?”. And then you start regretting every decision you ever made until you spiral into a full-blown existential crisis? Yeah, me neither. But I reckon Billie Rose might have something to say on the topic.
Her first release since her 2020 EP ‘Company With Regret’, ‘Black Dress’ is a song all about alcohol-induced anxiety. On alcohol-induced anxiety, Billie explains “It’s something I have personally suffered with since I started consuming alcohol. Although I don’t drink very often, I can guarantee that when I do, I wake up with that overwhelming feeling of anxiousness."
She adds "Since being open about this topic and my own experiences, I’ve discovered many people also suffer this; it makes me wonder why we continue to put ourselves in a position to feel this way. There are so many songs out there that glamorise partying/drinking, but it is rare to hear one about the negative impact alcohol can have on your mental health."
Co-written with Mitch Hagger and produced by Garrett Kato, I sense a certain amount of maturity and artistic soundness in ‘Black Dress’ when compared to her previous work. And dare I say, there seems to be a slight departure from the country vibes present on ‘Company With Regret’ (although, can you ever really take the country out of the girl).
