Unicorn Release Sophmore Single ‘Cats’
Are you a broken bird? Or perhaps a crazy cat?
If you answered yes to one or both of those questions, boy do I have the song for you.
Released by Western Australian-based alt-rock-pop band Unicorn, ‘Cats’ is a song all about finding your tribe. Written by frontwoman Jenna Hardie during a significant transitional period in her life, she explains “I think I was looking for my own tribe of people at the time. I was just getting back into music after a long break and was excited to realise that the friendships and musical mateships I had formed many years before, were still there”.
On my first listen to ‘Cats’, I thought to myself “I don’t know what’s happening here, but I like it”. After many more listens I still don’t know what’s happening, but I like it even more. The juxtaposition between the slow, slightly grungy verses with the more uptempo, poppier choruses feels just as exciting and unexpected on the tenth listen as it did on the first. I will continue listening to ‘Cats’ until boredom creeps in, but I can only assume that will be some time.
