Kieran Christopherson Releases Debut Album ‘Grand Mote’

I first met Kieran Christopherson a few months ago. He had just released a new single called ‘China’ (more on that later) and I got the chance to have a chat with him on The Musos Show, a radio program I host. Since we live in different cities (he’s in Melbourne and I’m in Sydney), the interview took place over Zoom. I don’t know if any of you have ever tried to do a radio interview over Zoom, but boy are there some technical fuck ups you need to fight.

We were pre-recording the interview (secrets out, not all radio is live) and halfway through the chat, my co-host Luke (who was in charge of recording everything) suddenly dropped out of the meeting (damn internet). To not disrupt the flow of conversation, I had to quickly find a way to record on my end and hope we could seamlessly edit the two recordings together (which we bloody well did).

A few months after that interview, Kieran has released his debut album ‘Grand Mote’. With so many songs to talk about on the album, I thought I would whittle it down to my 3 favourites (I am afraid of commitment though, so this list is sure to change in the future),

China

Alright, I teased this at the top of the article, but I’m going to start my list with ‘China’. This pick may be based a little on familiarity. It was the first release from the album, it was my introduction to Kieran and it’s the song I’ve heard most. The song has a great vibe though and it does a fantastic job at setting the tone for what the album is about.

Paradise

‘Paradise’ has a real fuck the system kind of vibe to it. Every time I listen to it, I feel my inner anarchist awaken and boy is he ready for a riot. Extra points to this song for referencing Bill Shorten in the first 30 seconds.

Get That Money

Probably my favourite off the album, ‘Get That Money’ begs the question is it “worth being miserable just to get that money”? This one really resonated with me as I’ve spent a lot of time pondering why money has such high value in society compared to things that seem so much more important and meaningful.

There we have it, my top 3 (for now) from ‘Grand Mote’. But don’t take my word for it, have a listen to the album yourself and let us know what you’re top 3 are.
