Lauran Hibberd Releases ‘That Was A Joke’
Lauran Hibberd's album ‘Garageband Superstar’ comes out next month. NEXT FUCKING MONTH. Do you know what that means? It’s less than two months until we have a full album from Lauran Hibberd. If that doesn’t peak your excitement, I don’t know if we can be friends (but also, please be my friend. I’m so lonely).
To tease the album, Lauran has given us one more song to nibble on before we get to the feast that ‘Garageband Superstar’ is sure to be. The new track ‘That Was A Joke’ is a song Lauran describes as ‘living in the world of denial’. She further explains “I feel like it could be a soundtrack to an early noughties kids show but the references are too niche for the average Zoey 101 watcher. It felt like a good track to leak because I can always lean on the title to save my butt if no one likes it”.
Like many of Laurans tracks, ‘That Was A Joke’ is fun, youthful, energetic and just a little bit silly. Every time I listen to one of her songs I have images of her on a festival stage, bouncing around with her Gibson SG and singing her heart out to an adoring yet wild crowd. And until she comes to Australia or I go to the UK, those images are all I’ll have of a Lauran Hibberd live show.
I had the chance to chat with Lauran way back in December of 2020 on the Life on Music podcast (listen here) and it’s been so great to see her grow as an artist and really kick some serious ass. If you couldn’t tell, I’m so very keen for the new album.
