Angie Colman releases ‘Who Are You After Me?’
I love it when the title of a song is also a question. Blink-182 asked ‘What’s My Age Again?’, Arctic Monkeys needed to find out ‘Do I Wanna Know?’ (and ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?’ and ‘R U Mine?’) and now Angie Colman wants to know ‘Who Are You After Me?’.
Following up her debut single ‘Maths’ released last year, Who Are You After Me?’ is a song about heartbreak and friendship in difficult times. On the track, Angie explains “It’s about a very close and intimate friend of mine, who I treated poorly while we were friends in high school. I was in an emotionally and physically abusive relationship and was unable to be there for her through the shit she had going on in her life”.
She continues “I think and write about her a lot because she shaped so much of who I am today, and the song is a question to how I shaped her as well, and the lasting imprints people have on you, even years after you disconnect from them”.
A guitar driven indie-rock song at heart, ‘Who Are You After Me?’ also has slight tinges of country music hidden in there. I find the track quite similar to some other incredible Australian artists such as Carla Geneve and Asha Jefferies.
Angie will also be playing a launch show for ‘Who Are You After Me?’ on July 29 at The Bird in Perth. Supporting her will be Joan & the Giants, Blue Honey and Honour Culture. Tickets available here.
