‘Stadium Dreams On A Bedroom Budget’ By Loser - Track-By-Track

Watching Netflix series is so last year. The thing that’s hot right now is listening to EPs that are inspired by the format of a Netflix series. Lucky for you, Melbourne-based band Loser is in the midst of releasing an EP based on that very format.

Throughout late 2022 and early 2023, Loser will be releasing songs from their EP ‘Stadium Dreams on a Bedroom Budget’. Although each song has its own story, every release will build on the narrative of the EP.

We at Be Groovy Or Leave thought it would be fun to write about each track as it is released. So let’s jump into the tracklist.

Track 1: Heaven Can Wait

What a way to kick off the EP. ‘Heaven Can Wait’ has a late 90s post-grunge kind of vibe to it. I can totally hear this slipping right into ‘The Colour and the Shape’ by the Foo Fighters. And that guitar solo, my boy can shred.

On the track, Losers Tim Maxwell says “The song's lyrics portray my feelings towards the fear of death and anxiety, back then I was an anxious wreck and always thought of the worst case scenario in my head”.

Track 2: Hold On You

Taking a sharp turn away from the anxious feelings and somewhat negative vibes of the previous track, ‘Hold On You’ is a song that I find quite sweet and warm.

On the track, Maxwell says “This is probably my favourite song on the EP. I started listening to heaps of Aerosmith and this song just fell out in one day. Usually, the songs that take less effort are the ones I think are special because your consciousness is running in a way unlike any other. This song is about having a deep connection with another human being who you never want to let go of.”

Although this song isn’t all that sonically Aerosmith-y, I can hear Steven Tyler belting the chorus of this track or Joe Perry playing this solo on his Les Paul.

Track 3:  Only One

And now, ballad time. ‘Only One’ swaps out overdriven electric guitars with an acoustic guitar for most of this song. That is until the guitar solo in the middle of the track (another face melter btw) and the final chorus where they switch their amps back on for a massive final chorus. I just love a song that starts small and grows bigger than you even come close to guessing it would from the opening bars.

On this track, Maxwell says “This song took ages to get right. We recorded it multiple times and I doubted it for a while but eventually, we got the right sound. Only One is one of the first love songs I have written, no matter how many times you fuck up in life there will always be someone by your side to support you and give you hope.”
